I chose UW-Fox because the price was right and it was very close to home. The small class sizes were attractive to me as a non-traditional student who had been out of school for quite some time and was somewhat nervous about sitting in huge lecture course settings. I had always wanted to help others with substance abuse issues, as I struggled for years with drug addiction myself. I feel I would be better able to assist others who want help because I can relate to the many facets of addiction personally. In the summer of 2015, a friend and neighbor died of an overdose. This event made my decision to return to school more resolute than it had ever been. I plan to continue my education at either UW-Green Bay or UW-Oshkosh. After graduation, and earning my bachelor's degree, I hope to work closely with addicts in the community and contribute both my knowledge and personal experience to the field of drug counseling.
